The scientific activity of the Chiavari seminary

(35 km from Genoa) was founded in 1828, when the "physics cabinet" for students was established.

In 1884, with the construction of the weather tower, the Meteorological Observatory also began its activity, to which the "Seismological Cabinet" was added in the late 19th century.

In 2001, the old observatory was converted into a museum. Observations were suspended, but meteorological observations with electronic sensors continue.
